"What's the point in hiding from the fact that we're not infallible beings?"

Thaeron looked back over his shoulder with a faint scowl.

"And who, exactly, set the rule that says we MUST be? Honestly, trying to be perfect is a fools' errand. Trying to live up to every expectation is condemning yourself to the immense desire to go bop your head against a wall. These are not goals that ANYONE can reach. Try to, and all you do is bind yourself more and more to unhappiness. Inevitable unhappiness. The harder we try to be perfect, the less we'll manage it, too. We'll keep on making mistakes - and make more and more as we keep on trying to attain this impossible goal, this shining nebulous dream..."

He snorted.

"We can never always be everything expected of us, you know. No one can. Not even the one who put us here. Not ever. All of us will, at some point in time, sneeze tea out our noses. We will fall up the stairs, lose patience with word puzzles and people, snap at those people, and sometimes be selfish - which isn't always a bad thing, but I digress." A gesture. "Look, we can be just as much blinkered by our hopes and fears as can any human, elf, fae, youma, drow or nu. And you know? The sooner we learn to go 'well, that's just how it is to be a created being - I fouled up this time and I'll make amends and avoid that situation next time' the better."

He was starting to pace a bit now and his voice rose a bit. Not in anger, but - well, when he was passionate about something, it showed.

I mean like. Okay. Seriously.

I have Jan Freaking Rosencrantz singing 'Secret Agent Man' in a high-pitched voice, presumably to drive Ashley NUTS. (He was doing this a couple days ago too.)

Meanwhile Roméo freaking Guildenstern is sitting around with coffee in hand trying desperately to maintain the illusion that he is a morning person, and doing an amazing job of ignoring Jan.

Isaac is this bliss puddle who intermittently nyans at me about plot lagomorpha. (Kyl's Adrian is teh mackz0r.)

Meanwhile these giant AU things are devouring my spleen. And I have original stuff percolating in the background.

AND GODDAMMIT THAERON. How old ARE you man!? And how the hell old is Sydney!? omgwtfdarkness. @_@

man seriously what is this i don't even dgsjjkjrhtsth.

Mea culpa.

Jan has used this place before as a confessional, and tells me I am permitted to do likewise. For the sake of my own peace of mind, if nothing else, I will.

The tale is told that twenty-five years before the Greyland incident, a massive earthquake shook Lea Monde to its foundations, killing every soul within. If that were the case, the city whose streets I walked and whose heart I sought to grasp for my own would not have been one of standing towers and still-lit forges. The Spellsong is a powerful thing indeed, but in the face of the very earth moving beneath a city, what can even the strongest enchantment prevent?

I thought at first that Inquisitor Merlose's theory - that the seismic event might have released a poisonous vapour from earth and choked the city to death - was a sound one. I now know better.

She is not a foolish woman - far form it. But what truly murdered that city is beyond what any could ever have imagined.

The knowledge of it drove me completely mad. By the time Jan informed me of the truth I was already mostly mad, so the blame does not lie with him.

Remember: what they fear is your potential. Small and petty people, insecure people, cannot abide the notion of things shifting from the order they have assigned to the cosmos. When you raised your head - when you began to question, to speak, to disagree - it was as if the very planets had shifted in their orbit. You disrupted their music of the spheres.

There is, however, no need to feel guilt. That any one person should be so arrogant as to believe that they alone have the authority to define what others' lives may and may not be is absurd, but believe it they do. You crack the foundations of their precious temple altars to infinite monotony and the notion that every one person has a set role, a designated niche, that they may not move from.

The universe is no stagnant thing.

Comes from my big fat cracky AU of crack! Not quite finished but I felt like posting.

Marin is sort of equivalent to Aqua, though unlike Aqua, Marin is the paladin/tank. XD I was thinking of Celes and then it just sort of happened.

And Rosey's made of noise. And even though discussing what exactly was done to Riskbreakers makes Thaeron Very Irritated (forcing one's way into hearts = very annoyed naïb in the house) - albeit not at Rosey - yeah. He wants to, and so forth - so he gets the keys.
