Where the nostalgia goggles at

So I'm watching HC Bailly's LP of Final Fantasy VII and - wow. I had forgotten how many little cool things were in this game.

Like for example what has to be the coolest fcuking music segue EVER. It's at the point where Sephiroth goes utterly crackers in Cloud's flashback story. Up until the point where you find him in that library, the background music's been that eerie tolling bell/heartbeat-like thump percussion. But then Cloud goes down to see him and Sephiroth starts to leave.

Cloud's all "wtf seph?"

And the music just stops.

Seph goes, "Out of my way; I'm going to see my mother."

And them WHAM the soundtrack's into Those Chosen by the Planet and I get this epic flock of goosebumps.

They really did do a good job on presenting Sephiroth's character within a short time. From the flashback, we learn that he's really introverted, feels set apart from just about everyone, does care for his men (telling them to get to bed early, hee), than he respected Professor Gast and cared a hell of a lot for him too (oh damn, his 'why did you die?' broke my heart a little), didn't like Hojo a whole hell of a lot (oh god the snark was lovely), and cares about civilian welfare. In short, before he went utterly bughouse nuts, he as a very very DECENT guy and that makes his million-mile-an-hour fall from grace that much worse.

Other fan squee:
-Fuck fuck fuck fuck the trail of blood in the shinra building fuuuuck. The sword slash marks on the wall. Aaaauuugh. I remember being convinced when I saw that part plaed that Sephiroth was going to drop out of nowhere and pwn all our asses.
-MY GOD I LOVE COSMO CANYON'S MUSIC. The part where it crescendoes makes me shiver still.
-Damn it I thought that bit with the mine cart was by Corel! I guess not. Er...There's this one point in the game where they want you to move a mine cart from one spot to another, and the cart turns out to be across the worst tracks ever. I DISTINCTLY remember seeing this part played through, and seeing the camera pan over to the cart, and the note "It's over here... (^^;)" appearing. Yes, just like that, smiley and all. And I recollect the BGM being Holding My Thoughts in My Heart. I thought it was by Corel because that's a point at which that song plays. (That track hella reminds me of Vicky incidentally.) I'm sure I didn't hallucinate this XD;
-lol 4-eva at Dio's 'Sephiroth bust have a lot of fans in boys your age' to Cloud. Oh wow XD Dio, you elder queen.
-Further - did anyone else notice the 'gateway to heaven' written around the edge of the hole in the floor? WTFski.
-BAHHAHAHAHAA MUKKI SHOWING UP AGAIN LATER IN THE GAME. And he remembers Cloud. XD
-Hojo in Costa. What WAS that? He's almost cordial, he makes a terrible joke about Cloud being his guinea pig, he actually INFORMS you of things...and then trails off into mumbling. What the hell. I've seen this explained as him having resigned to try to avoid Jenova but the fleeing fails because she brainjacks him again in Costa. Is there ever any further explanation for that 'resigned archgeek' plot point?
-Oh god the actors in Nibelheim make me want to punch them so bad. XD; Holy fuck, do I ever know how it is to have some DUMB FUCKIN' LITTLE HALFPENNY PUTZ whine at me that I'm crazy for something they have no fuckin' idea about themselves. XD; Cloud has more self control than I do, I would have started punching.
-Uh. Hojo. Hojo, dude? Dude, you have no life. The mansion puzzle thing...really. Really? Really. YOU HAVE NO LIFE. Take up Sudoku or something! How bored were you and Ms. Space Eyeball!?
-The mansion is really, really pretty inside.

Mukki was way more fun to RP than he had any right to be.

Also, I'm sure Nibel has some long, lonely winters that Hojo had to put up with. =P

He could've taken up crocheting. Turks in the basement is less productive ad tends to end in one turning into a weird mutant and getting smacked by a kid with funny hair. Crocheting gets you a nifty scarf, which is practical in such weather. *totally bitchy Canadian XD*

I'd forgotten you played Mukki. XD Must've been in a game I wasn't in, tho'. Or my memory just fell over.

I'm totally picturing Hojo building a lifesize papercraft Vincent and crocheting that ridiculous cape now. :)

...As is the one I just got of Hojo looking at Vincent's torn up cape hem circa Dirge and yelling 'For the love of Shiva's subzero bosom, Valentine, HEM THAT DAMNED THING.'

I think the blood trail in the Shinra building actually inspired a sorta nightmare in me once. x.x Yes, there was a Sephiroth created blood trail in one of my dreams once. That scene imprints so damn easily.

I always had this bizarre theory that Hojo wasn't really retired per se, but on vacation and is hanging out with all the ladies 'cause he could and uh, Hojo is always on crack, so his logic is like screwy logic. Anyways, I never really questioned it too much. I just kinda assumed that he was just being "HAI I AM RANDOMLY HERE." Because Hojo exists to be random like that.

I dunno. His being there does happen to give me an excuse for the existence of one of my crack FFVII OCs, so.

Oh and thanks for cluing me onto HC Bailly's stuff! He did a play through of Terranigma. :D :D I'm definitely going to watch that one.

No problem ^^ I really like his stuff and Quadraxis14's because there's no dumb annoying stuff in them. Like no 'hurrr I will try to be cool by making gay jokes'.

NintendoCapriSun is pretty cool as well, and I personally think Dragondraikk and his buddy Grah are pretty damned funny but my sense of humour is bent XD;

Awesome. I also noticed he did Soul Blazer which was like the first RPG type game I ever played. Which always made me go "wtf" with the ending because the girl falls in love with the hero after only meeting him like once or twice or something in the game and mostly because he rescues her father probably and oh and it's just bizarre. I'm like "the one girl in the entire game that has any importance is apparently always supposed to be the damn love interest?".

I mean, yeah, it's one of the earlier SNES games, but it still annoys me on some level.

omg, I love this guy, especially how he starts rambling on about his cats out of no where. It's hilarious. You can so tell that he's a cat person. XD

My favourite cat related aside was in the middle of - Chrono Trigger, I think. One of his cats came over to mooch attention, and you hear (sniff sniff sniff* *hpp-pftxz!* followed immediately by HC: "Yes, you're a sneezy kitty."

Runner up is: "Stop clawing at the door, kitties, there's no food in here."

And probably tell them he resigned so he could show up later all "LOL JUST KIDDING :D" Hojo=maximum troll.

And in re: nightmares aaaaa I can relate. I once had this creepy dream about first-person-perspective exploring the Shinra building and I remember my shoes skidding on the epic Jenovasmudge on the floor and my subsequent freaking out like wow.

The other creepy thing was the slash marks in the walls and floors. Like - we're talking 'it went through the building material like a damn LASER through butter, screw the hot knife'.

And the handprints on the wall. When I dreamed about this there were handprints both from people who'd hit the wall and then become dead AND from Seph kind of going *la la trail fingers along wall I am not sane*. I woke up shortly after I ran into him, before anything happened besides that.

GAH XD; I remember it so damn clearly ffff.

That is totally a Hojo thing to do. He just does things because he can. For a person who prides himself on being uber logical, he does a pretty poor job of actually, you know, doing logical things. Or at least anything that has any semblance of logic on the outside. I mean, that even appears in the newer games like Crisis Core where he's like "I must finish this experiment even though my life is probably in danger!" He makes me go wtf. Oh and his English voice makes me giggle because it totally does not sound like what Hojo sounds like in my mind.

My dream involved carnage, Cloud, and a roller coaster. I may have been Cloud at some point in the dream, but changing POVs is normal for me in dreams, usually mostly with characters I identify with in some form or another and sometimes I'm just myself, but yeah, my dreams are piles of wtf. My real real nightmares are usually about stuff that's worrying me in real life (offline and online) which probably explains why I can watch horror and never have any nightmares from them.

Yeah, like, I always imagined Hojo as having a quieter type of a voice. I - okay I'll admit that I mentally cast Tachiki 'Ikari Gendou' Fumihiko as Hojo in my brain. :B Which of course means Gast is Kiyokawa Motomu (Fuyutsuki). I nerd shamelessly, yes I do.

XD; Nozawa Nachi isn't a bad seiyuu by any means but whenever I hear him I'm like PALADIN ANDERSON IS THAT YOU OMG.
