So if you've played through or read up on the revamped Scarlet Monastery and Scholomance dungeon quests, you'll know that Lilian has something to do with both. The events of the Scholo one made me blink a lot.
I'll spoiler-cut just in case, and also declare that I do not take this as part of my own AU brain-canon. AU Lilian has joined the Forsaken (who are not generically evil FFS) and is sort of unofficially apprenticed to Nathanos and Koltira, who consider her one of the precious few sensible people they've met.
Anyhow. Spoiler cut now!
In Scholo, some interesting stuff happens!
1) We get a floaty skull belonging to Lord Barov, who we learn has had second thoughts about all this Scourge crap (which...that's new) and wants us to kick these bums out of his house.
2) We get Lilian as a semi-escort.
(2b) We get allegedly-clickable books that don't fricking work. Jesus hell, Blizzard.)
3) We get OMGWTFHAX!Gandling, who is able to souljack Lilian and RECORD NEEDLE SCRATCH what
Rewind, blink a lot, wait, since when is Gandling that hax?
And since when are the Forsaken vulnerable to Scourge necromancy outside situations where they've succumbed to the Cold?
One of the implied points to the Vanilla-brewed new plague/blight (which kind of got lost on the way to Wrath) was "Well, if they are like us, Arthas cannot gank any of them, and we will not be at risk of being WTFPWN'D by them." That is, if everyone has Sylvanas as their--spiritual anchor, I guess...then Arthas cannot get them, and they will be safe, and they can fight him as a united front and have a better chance to win.1 Let it be said that WHILE I COMPLETELY DO NOT CONDONE PLAGUE RUSH KEKEKEKE, I can understand why the Forsaken thought this was so necessary.
We do not see any other Forsaken have this happen; if Gandling and Araj had been able to do this to the Forsaken at *vom* Andorhal *bleh* I bet my best blue brassiere that they would have.
So Lilian's susceptible to Scourge-brand necromantic hijacking. She is, as far as I can see, unique in this aspect. She's also unique in a couple of others:
a) Pyromancy/pyrokinesis.
b) A Death Grip(!!!???)-esque skill that seems to work not unlike the Gorefiend's Creepy Shadow Gank LOL enhanced Death Grip that player DKs can get.
c) Blue eyes rather than yellow.
It's that last point that struck me the first time I saw her. As far as we can tell, the only undead with blue eyes are Scourge, and Death Knights in particular, mirroring Arthas's own eye-glow.
So then--what's going on? It could be one of a few things.
1) The Val'kyr could be faffing around/disloyal (which would be bloody annoying because for fuck's sakes Blizzard can we stop portraying female characters as incompetent, unfit to lead, psycho, jealous, petty, bitchy and insane)...but I'm not sure about that one, because Lilian is the only blue-eyed pyrokinetic WTFHAX undead, and...wouldn't they make more, or have sleeper agents, or something...? I'm going to file this under implausible for the time being.
2) She could be one of the Forsaken who was resurrected as a DK circa the Zerging of the Scarlet Enclave. But again--I'm not sure. If this is the case, when did she get to Tirisfal...was she freed at Light's Hope and then pwned by amnesia? Do DKs go into torpor sometimes or something? This one is a maybe-but-I-don't-really-know-about-the-details. Support for this can also come from Gandling referring to the Blades of the Anointed specifically as Lilian's runeblades.
3) Balnazzar did something evil. This is plausible, because we don't know what-all he's been up to besides slacking off in Stratholme and hitting the Scarlets with the Irony Bat (which they ignore--poor Balnazzar, his /b/ skillz are for naught). The Tyr's Hand Cata quests aren't clear whether the undead Scarlets therein are his fault or Arthas's so...yeah. This one is another maybe-but-I-don't-really-know-about-the-details.
4) Blizzard forgot how to lore, forgot the Forsaken cannot be Scourgejacked, and gave her blue eyes just because they did. This is very plausible, but goddamn I hope that isn't the case XD
SO YEAH!
WTF IS GOING ON WITH LILIAN?

:B
At least she gets away at the end of the Scholo brouhaha. I like her, and want to see more of her.
Regardless, though, AU Lilian is hanging out with Koltira and Nathanos, and AU Gandling is a long-suffering sarcastic middle-aged crank who would rather be on sabbatical or RETIRED thank you very much because his students are all denser than titanium and wow are liches ever idiots.
Doom doom doom, the end!
1This point was stated by Nobunaga in the WCRadio Lorekeepers podcast in 2006. Given that he was/is the biggest Forsaken geek evar, and was generally spot-on about implied/speculative lore, I'm inclined to believe him.
