Yeah, stuff like that isn't always intended, but the thing is that in drawing from cultures in the way that Blizz did, you end up drawing comparisons/analogies (whether intentional or not) that people will take and run with. It's rare that people start off with nasty intent but arhcitecture and the culture it comes from are hugely intertwined. So there's that there...
Basically...aloof elves is everywhere, but when you get Asian influences being cited repeatedly (night elves having torii and kimchee snacky things and so on) it gets into 'elves are like Asians'/aloof Asians subconsciously and goes all kinds of enngghh places.
It's not done with the intent of being douchey, but it's a thing that can happen anyway. It's sort of an occupational hazard of art XD; And then you get stuff like asshatty fans out and out calling Rommath an evil vizier and it kind of solidifies into the almighty Jello of Fail.
Most of it is Knaak's fault anyway in the end. XD Blizzard tends to be like oh let's just put HOOKAHS IN! without any intent besides hey they're exotic. and then Knaak comes along and the fail gets worse. :B
and I'm trying to think of places where Arthas figures prominently lol--hmm-- loo some of it is in desperate need of rewrites but this creepiness with my DK and Arthas brain-stalking still holds up. I think it's because I wrote it under the influence of NyQuil!
I also have this cracky Arthas/Varian 'in which Varian has freaky nightmares and Arthas is the king of innuendo' that's been in progress forever and is staring at me. *tries to make Arthas blink first*
