XD I was worried people were going to accuse me of being some hippie-dippy know-it-all.
I was talking about this with m'friend Frank and he pointed out more cool stuff: the cultural image of black-robed death-associated things being as old as the plague (monks giving last rites for one), the tie-in of the classic black executioner's hood, the flying sheet ghost things in Night on Bald Mountain, the fedora image being reinforced by Dark City - hell, GAINAX may have been playing into the staicky-shadow image when they designed the Hanrasen-zoku in Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann.
These are well known cultural images over here and I keep thinking it is way too serendipitous that these things should fit so many criteria for AHMAHGAHD.
