About the Makai and junk!

***

DUKE - Real name long and complex. Current heir of the Noble House of D. (Real surname long and complicated.) Responsible for the out and out massacre of the corrupt Chamber Circle. His father is suspected of setting this up; in reality, Duke's Father Lord D. has nothing whatsoever to do with the attack besides being the father of the assailant. Which the supporters of the Chamber Circle are demanding Duke be brought to justice and killed himself, this is unlikely to ever happen; the corruption of the circle was rampant, and their abuse of a prescient in order to maintain power rubbed many the wrong way. It's likely that Duke will end up being fined out the yin-yang and endure a given amount of time with his powers docked.

Seeing as Duke's true power level is unknown, this won't be a problem for him.

Duke is sarcastic, gregarious, loud, outspoken, and he swears a lot. (He calls people 'ass-cleft' for example.) He's engaged to a daughter of an allied house and they sustain a cheerfully open relationship.

His 'tranced' form is a terrifying thing that resembles himself crossbred with a Neo Shadow.

Brunet hair, violet eyes, expressive mouth. TActless. About five feet ten inches tall - VERY tall for a mazoku.

RUE - Reuel. A prescient mazoku who was kept drugged in a trance state by one of the Chamber. This Chambr member owned one of the more infamous Scholomances of the Makai; it has since been declared defunct and closed down. He's coping admirably with the withdrawal symptoms but has suffered permanent damage to his mental wards. Introverted and possessed of little memory of the time before his incarceration, Rue now serves as Duke's seer, and he's quite happy about it.

CENDRE - a.k.a. the Ashen Prince. The son of an infamously-tyrannical mazoku Ma-ou, Cendre (whose real name is, like Duke's, not really given) is responsible for Duke's being able to access the Chamber Circle in the first place. His father was a member of this circle; Cendre stood to inherit a seat there until his father, claiming him a bastard, cut him out of the inheritance and planned to put one of his other children (half-mortal, by a woman whom the warlord fell into and out of love with quickly) in the circle as a figurehead or puppet ruler. Cendre challenged his father to a duel, and lost; he then used his father's confidence that he would bother them no more as a means to prevent his father or anyone else ever knowing of his involvement. Duke doesn't care one way or another - he thinks it's fucking hilarious.

Cendre's former disdain and hatred for his half-siblings has since faded now that he is aware of how they were treated by his father. He used to rather terrorize them, but has made amends and left them be to do as they want with his support as needed.

His hatred of his father, though, has outlived the man. He's certain that the warlord was responsible for the disappearance of his mother. As well, the warlord is not truly Cendre's father; Cendre is in fact the son of the erlking Nuada's brother - who is himself the son of the fae god of death and changes.

Five feet seven inches tall. Silver eyes, and strange hair that's white at the roots and for most of its length but darkens to black at the tips. Extremely pretty, but in a chilly sort of way.

CAER SIDI - a.k.a. Caer Vedwyd, Caer Rigor, Caer Golud and so on. The palace of the god of the dead. Not half as scary as it is in Taliesin's poem, though the bard had good reason to portray it as such. There was a time, before the Makai and the Common ream were divided, when a mortal army marched on the citadel, intent on killing Death himself. Indeed, only seven returned. They weren't in good shape.

[Erlking's brother] - I haven't got his name yet lolle. he could have ended up the king of the Lady's Court but the position went to Nuada instead. Brother was fine with this and fell for a lady who'd later come to be known as the Queen of Air and Darkness. She was married but the fae/mazoku (race hadn't split yet) are fine with open relationships and her husband thought Nuada's brother was hot too. (A kid comes of this union: Cendre. He doesn't know which dad is his biological dad and didn't care.) But then the big upheavals start, humanity starts getting all antsy pants, there are constant conflicts. The Queen, in these conflicts, disappears. Nuada's brother goes a bit nucking futs, as does her husband (who is poisoned by an arrow in the battle and starts to go slowly batshit over time). He's been elusive since then, and orchestrating a lot behind the scenes. Has the ability to see dreams, as this is a gift of Nuada's bloodline.

His short term goal seems to be to usurp the throne (though not kill Nuada - the thought of losing anyone else scares the hell out of him) and enact a more hardline policy on the relationships between fae and humans. He does NOT approve of the Appointed, and doesn't understand why elves or fae would want to ally themselves with these creatures whose memories are shorter than their lifespans. Fae/human and mazoku/human unions perplex him - he doesn't understand why Eirlys would like this mortal guy enough to give him half her lifespan. Fae in the appointed are seen by him as foolish at best or traitors at worst. Fae/mazoku relationships he can't see a problem with. Wheth or not he likes vampires depends on their attitude.

Extremely powerful sorcerer and no slouch with a blade either.
