Ha ha ha ha MOAR MAZOKU INFO DUMP! And some about the Fae!

brought to you by the letters Q and X and the fact that Yukie is amused by Orlouge using the 'ware' pronoun.

I'll be adding people's commentary as I go XD

RELIGIOUSITY: Most Mazoku revere the Dark Lady; her aspect as Osana the guardian of outcasts is a usual subject of reverence. It's understood that reverence of one is reverence of all; there's really no rarblargh at the light. [Yildun: "The dark-light animosity and dichotomy is a human concept."] As well, they do revere Thanatos since he's the one who gave them sanctuary in the Makai. Unlike his human followers (the mainstreamers anyway; the Hermetics are another matter), though, they realize that he HAS gone around the twist and thus their reverence comes along with a prayer to the Dark/Yin-as-primordial-force for his healing.

*Mazoku don't seem to personify the primordial Yin/Dark and Yang/Light as do the fae. They don't think the fae are wrong, nor do the fae think they're wrong. it's just a difference. [Rastaban: "We see a rabbit, they see a bird, both of us are right."]

NAMES OF THE LADIES (translated to english for your benefit)
Light - Daughter of the Tree
Dark - Daughter of the Stars
Chaos - Daughter of Changes
Order - Daughter of Balance
Void - Daughter of Stillness

They're called by epithets out of respect. Just up and calling someone by name without permission is seen as rude, because a name has IMMENSE power for Mazoku. [Scheat: "This is why our lord has so many epithets. A lot of them are occasional - it would be silly of me to call him the Guardian of Roses in the middle of a trial, for example; I'd want to call him Exalted Judge then instead. ...That likely sounds like overdoing it, to a human, but for us it's basic respect. Acknowledging an elder is not grovelling."]

...Scheat's little aside brings me to another point: the relationship of Fae and Mazoku to the gods. The way they deal with deities seems to humans downright damn cheeky most of the time, if not crazyassed. To Fae and Mazoku, though, the human method is insulting. Fae and Mazoku related to the deities as kohai-to-senpai. [Yildun: "They are our elders, not our absolute superiors; we respect them deeply and treat them accordingly, but there's no need for us to declare ourselves worthless. That's absurd." Rastaban: "Neither we nor the Fae believe in one up on a pedestal whom no one else can equal." Vicky: "The chosen one is all of us. By being born we were chosen somehow. We have a purpose and a right to be."*] There is a great deal of respect, of course, but grovelling is perceived as an insulting thing to do, because by declaring yourself worthless you are by extension insulting the god who loves a worthless being. You'll see Fae and Mazoku bow to gods, certainly, and revere them as one would an ancestor - but total faceplant kowtow-age doesn't happen. Neither Fae nor Mazoku expect a deity to be infallible either. They do expect them to be responsible, as power comes with that weight - but if one of the Ladies trips and bonks her head on a wall they won't flip out in incredulous OMGWTF, rather they'll go "Dang, senpai, that had to hurt, let me grab you an icepack--" only with politer phrasing.

tl;dr to Mazoku and Fae, gods are elders and social elders. They are not absolute powers (since every born being has free will) and are not expected to be infallible; you can disagree with a god and not be a disrespectful ass**. Mazoku and Fae are also less 'beholden' to some of the effects deities might have on a mortal. [Asellus: "That one's harder to explain. It's like - um. Like having a polarized lens - you can see past reflections on water and stuff. The reflection isn't fake, it exists, light is bouncing--but we filter out some of that...? ...This is so awkward, could someone explain it in a less derptastic way? Please?" Whiterose: "Our minds are different from mortal minds and so it stands to reason that our perception should be too. I would never deny the divinity of the Daughter of the Tree, but I may not respond to her presence as a human would. They might be terrified, and bow, or perhaps faint, or weep - I on the other hand would be overjoyed - I would bow of course, and I would be aware of her talents and her gifts, and in awe of them, but because of the nature of my being, I would not be - 'bowled over' as it were." Asellus: "Thank you - see, that. Amazed but not bulldozed!"] Where a human might spazz out in awe and terror at, say, Tahran being all Y HELO SHINY, a Fae or Mazoku will be very amazed and definitely respectful, but not incapacitated. It's not a lack of reverence, it's a different point of view and nature of mind and being.

USUAL ALTAR THINGS (for Mazoku):
Lady of Light: Pink roses, any living flower, green plants
Lady of Dark: Night-blooming jasmine, sandalwood incense, bells
Lady of Chaos: Colourful candles, butterfly-motif items, wind chimes
Lady of Order: Grey candle in silver holder, small dagger, white feathers
Lady of Void: Obsidian items/black mirror, empty cup or goblet, bowl of fine sand
Yin: Bowl of still water, usually deep blue glass or black stone
Yang: White candle in gold holder (usually will have a small solar talisman for Tahran, the first son of primordial Yang)
Thanatos: Black feathers, small 'water candle', small bowl of dark earth.

Rosewater candies are a usual offering to Lady of Light; Lady of Dark usually gets spicy tea. Oddly enough, food offerings to Thanatos are generally vanilla things. No one's quite sure why. XD

That's all I can think of right now XD; So you get RANDOM MINI BIOS FOR THE MAZOKU

ORLOUGE: a.k.a. Lord of Beguiling, Merciless King, Guardian of Roses, Emperor of the Shade, Pursuer of Beauty, Exalted Judge, and so on, and so on. XD Son of Thanatos and the Lady Circaea. Reigning Maou of the Western and Southern Makai. (His father took out the Southern king, is why.) Was insane, now he isn't because Asellus Nashira slapped sense into him with the Asura. He still has all his magic intact, though he had to build it back up again from almost nothing.

ASELLUS NASHIRA: The only known artificially-born half-Mazoku. Was an ordinary human until she got struck and fragged by Orlouge's carriage; for some reason he gave her his blood, thus saving her life. She didn't appreciate his batshittery, though, and ran away, returning to smack him silly when he went too far picking on her. She had the right to inherit Orlouge's land and titles when she smote him, but wasn't interested. She downs a little land on the South and lives there with Gina and Whiterose.

PRINCESS WHITEROSE: One of the maaaaaany consorts who used to sleep in Orlouge's palace (he had a habit of refusing to let partners leave). Seems to be a bit of a Yamato Nadeshiko, and used to be quite a doormat, but with Orlouge sane again she's much more self-assured (Whiterose is quite empathetic and Orlouge's craziness and unhappiness weighed on her a lot). Quite the epic mage.

GINA: Formerly-human maid to a tailor, now sorta-Mazoku by sharing Asellus's lifeforce (Mazoku can do this as well as Fae - it is always consensual). Badass tailor in her own right too. The third point of the OT3. Gina's earnest, serious and clever, and she's finding she really likes the makai. Is one of few people who's ever gotten Yildun to laugh.

YILDUN: a.k.a. Knight of the Black Wing. Asellus calls him Mr. Antisociable when teasing him. One of Orlouge's three Arch Knights. Very introverted, rather cranky, and only really seems to relax around Asellus, Gina, or Rastaban.

RASTABAN: Yildun's longtime partner. One of the Arch Knights. Went a bit nuts himself when Orlouge was batty, and survived having a lot of his prana and mana stolen by a crazed Scheat. Was plotting to overthrow Orlouge, knowing that the present lord was possessed by the spirit of the old one. VERY outgoing, amiable, gregarious, and no slouch with a sword himself. Somehow manages to look good in orange though his hair is green.

SCHEAT: The third Arch Knight. The youngest too. Nervous around women, but he's not misogynistic by any means, knowing that his nerviness is his issue. Does respect Asellus and Rukmini (the Golden Lion Princess). Went completely nuts after mystic-slurpeeing Rastaban; much like Orlouge got the sane bopped into him by Asellus. Somewhat standoffish and wary of newcomers.

RUKMINI SIMHA: a.k.a. Kinjishi-hime (she lived in Eblan for a while), Princess Lion. Only one person anywhere EVER has ever bested her in a battle and that's Orlouge - and even then, BARELY. Thus, she's fond of him even without him mojo-ing at her like a twit. She's down-to-earth, honourable, and very much the 'older sister' type. Puts up with no nonsense. Responsible for Asellus's advanced fighting training since she knows tricks Yildun doesn't - those two are good friends, incidentally. She admires Whiterose's endless patience. XD

SILENCE: No one's sure of his real name, though he's been nicknamed 'you narcissistic cosplay jerk' (ha ha Fuse). He is mute, but he's perfectly capable of communicating telepathically, and his SHADOW can speak. Was a candidate for Arch Knight but decided he wanted to travel instead. Lives outside the makai but visits often enough.

to be added: Mesarthim, Rei-hime, zozma, my god I are lazy.

NOTE: Asura is a keyblade; it's like Soul Eater in that it stays in its intermediate form a ton. Orlouge holds a keyblade as well; this is why he can seal or open the gates of the Makai.

*This is very like Kinoko Nasu's concept of meaning, really.

**Vicky's relationship to Aurora is fundamentally altered when Thanatos starts in on her out of fear; in order to ensure that she acts as he needs her to think like a human rather than a Fae. As such, under the influence of the experimental curse on her heart and his constant pestering, she starts being overly-deferential to the point of appearing VERY strange to Fae and Mazoku, and perceiving herself as without worth as compared to an incarnate goddess. She snaps out of this when Yildun yells at her. XD
